Quarter 3 has begun - we are halfway through the year!
Social Studies - This quarter will start off with social studies. It will take up the 3 weeks we are in before track out and will be focused on Westward Expansion. Students will research into the governments of Ancient Greece, Roman Republic, and the Iroquois Nation and discover which ideas and principals inspired the creation of our own democratic government.
We will then move onto looking at how the United States grew in the 1800's and the affects of the Industrial Revolution. We will end with a project focused on Westward Expansion.
Math - FRACTIONS FRACTIONS FRACTIONS! We will be focusing on fractions the entire quarter. It is very important that your child bring home their math journal each and every night. Notes given in class are very thorough and explain the step by step procedure required to complete a problem. Please do not teach your child the algorithm at this time.
We will be interpreting fractions as division problems and connecting it to real life situations. I will post help videos and notes whenever possible. Please email me if you have ANY questions!
ELA - These next few weeks will focus on reading fantasy as well as writing fantasy. The students will be looking at the elements of fantasy as a genre for books and also in writing. We are still reading "One Crazy Summer" as our read aloud from last quarter and the kids seem to be enjoying it. Once this is finished, we will begin reading a fantasy book.
