Welcome back from Track out! I hope we are all feeling refreshed and ready to learn!
Science - We are starting our Human Body Unit. We will begin with Genetics this week. The student's will be taking part in a lot of fun activities and will learn about inherited traits and how we become who we are. The following week will be dedicated to our Human Growth and Development Unit. Remember, if you would like to take a look at our curriculum, a copy of our binder is available in the front office for you to look through until we begin on Friday.
Take home your science journal EVERY NIGHT.
Math - We are continuing where we left off with multiplying decimals. Please try to steer away from teaching your child the "traditional" way of multiplying decimals. We WILL touch on that, but not until the end. Their journal is their BEST resource for this as the notes that I give daily are very detailed.
Reading - We're still working with text structure! Kids are constantly practicing reading different passages and answering text dependent questions. When answering these questions they will need to provide a thorough answer that is supported by evidence from the text. We will be doing this by either quoting directly or paraphrasing.
Writing - These next few weeks will be focused on our opinion piece. Students have chosen a topic they have a very strong opinion about. They have created a thesis statement and found a counterclaim to go along with this thesis. These next two weeks they will be doing research on their topics and working hard to support it with FACTUAL evidence.
Remember ... GO TARHEELS! HOORAY FOR BASKETBALL SEASON! :)
