Below is the image we used FIRST - read the words that are listed. (easy right?)
Next - look at the picture below. Now instead, say the COLOR of the words, but do not read the word, just say the color.
Curious as to why?
When a word's meaning is coupled with distracting information, such as a color, the 2 different regions of the brain are stimulated. The right side decodes the letters and reads the word. The left side analyzes the color. When you are asked to read the color (ACTIVE) rather than read the word (PASSIVE) - the brain becomes conflicted slowing down your response time. Experience has taught us to pay more attention to the meanings of words rather than the colors they are written in.
